Parks are important assets enjoyed by all members of local communities. Limiting tobacco use in parks can reduce youth exposure to tobacco products, prevent second-hand smoke inhalation, and reduce litter and waste. Some local communities in King County have enacted ordinances or policies that prohibit tobacco use, while others have limited use in some areas of their parks. Still others have very limited tobacco use policies. This page helps you to understand the variance in local park policies with respect to tobacco use in King County.

Policies were collected for each locality using the freely accessible Municipal Research and Services Center of Washington online database of city municipal codes. When it was not possible to find policies online, city officials were contacted to obtain the text of the law or to confirm that none exists.

This page has been updated and displays policies in effect through August 2014.
